On Friday evening last week, District Commissioner Lynn and Steven Osborn ran the latest Young Leader Module A course. Covering the basics of scouting and important safety and safeguarding information, we had 17 participants from all over Hampshire. 11 of those were from New Forest North: 5 from the 2nd, 3 from the 4th, 2 from the 5th and 1 from the 6th.

We now have 32 Young Leaders in the district, a fantastic number. There are some groups who are looking for more Young Leaders so we will continue to train and look for new talent. This was Lynn’s last Module A as the baton is handed to Nicky Cully and Steven Osborn for the future. Lynn will still be around for the Module B-K residential weekends in Lyndhurst, every October. This year’s residential course is now full and more for the First Aid only on the Sunday.

Birds of the World badge

Want to get your Scouts out in nature more this term? Perhaps spotting some nature in our gardens? This badge might be for you!

It’s the brain child of Chloe Foster, a Hampshire Top Awards Adviser. The badge is part of her Scouts of the World award challenge to educate young people about birds of the world. Plus the proceeds are being used to support her expedition to Tanzania in 2020 to build a new medical centre at Emua Hill.

Finally, a success story to share with you all from Newcastle-upon-Tyne! Jack Down and Jade Sadler, former Scout Network members and section leaders at the 5th, have featured in their local magazine. Since leaving our area they’ve gone from assistant leaders to leading their own Beaver Colony. It really is great to see their enthusiasm and ambition – definitely dreaming big! Best of wishes from all the team. See here for the interview: Kingston Park Life
