HQ Accessibility Information - 1st Lyndhurst

At the Scouts we’re open to all and we do all we can to include people in our activities. These guides help give you some information about accessing our headquarters to help you and our leaders make informed decisions and to help improve things for the future.

We are located off Wellands Road in Lyndhurst. Find directions to the HQ on Google Maps.

Public transport
Nearest bus stop	Fire Station, High Street towards Ashurst and opposite towards Brockenhurst – 200m from entrance.
Bus routes	Bluestar 6 route hourly to Ashurst, Totton, Brockenhurst and Lymington.
Bus shelter?	Yes with seat at both stops.
Buses accessible?	Yes. Low floor buses used on route.
Private hire?	Accessible to private hire vehicles.
Walking and cycling
Footpath access	Yes with easy access to High Street.
Cycle access	Yes. Local roads have a 30mph limit.
HQ pedestrian entrance	Not from Wellands Road, pedestrian gate from football ground car park.
Parking
Car parking?	Yes. Approximately 6 spaces on hard gravel.
Accessible spaces?	No. All spaces within easy reach of door. No markings so drivers can leave as much space as they need.

Getting in and moving around

Main entrance
Step free access?	Yes.
Automatic doors?	No.
Wide doors?	No. Right hand door not usually open but volunteers can pin it open if needed for access.
Other entrances/exits
Step free access?	Into store: Yes. Kitchen fire exit, hall fire exit and meeting room rear door: No. In all cases, there is a 10-15cm step down into the training ground.
Wide doors?	Hall fire door – yes, others – no.
Indoor space
Step free access?	All rooms on one level accessed from the hall or the entrance corridor.
Wide doors?	Yes – from corridor into hall, into accessible toilet and from hall into store rooms. Corridor doors are double and opened in either direction. Other doors including into meeting room – no.
Wide corridors?	Corridors are wide enough to turn a wheelchair.

Facilities

Toilets
Toilets	Large and small unisex toilets are available and can be labelled male and female to suit the makeup of users on the site. A designated accessible toilet is also available.
Wheelchair access?	Accessible WC has room for a chair to move around, handles for support.
Alarm?	Unknown.
Hard of hearing
Hearing loop?	No.
Visual fire alarm?	No. It is the responsibility of the leader in charge to check for users when evacuating.
Contents
Flexible layout	Collapsible tables and different furniture options allow for flexibility of layout.
Catering facilities	Sinks, cookers, water boiler and kettle all available to hall users.
Environment
Lighting	Modern artificial lighting in every room in addition to daylight. Curtains on the high-level windows in main hall.
Temperature	Radiators throughout the HQ to heat. Aside from opening doors and windows, there is no way to cool the HQ.
