Welcome to Edition 53 of Tails of the New Forest. After a bumper edition last time, we are aiming for a shorter edition of Tails to signpost the more important updates.
What’s coming up?
Christmas Chaos Camp

Join the team at Foxlease Campsite, New Forest, from 4–6 December for a weekend of festive fun, team challenges and friendly competition! This year, Scouts aged 13+ can join Explorers and Young Leaders to meet new people, try new activities and discover what Explorer Scouting is all about.
Leaders are welcome too, but Scouts and Explorers can attend without their own leaders. Find out more on the event website website and you can sign up here. For questions or to request the event on OSM, email [email protected].

An update from Eling

Sadly, Craig Challis has stepped down as the Group Lead Volunteer at 4th Eling Sea Scouts a couple of weeks ago. We thank Craig deeply for all his enthusiasm and determination to bring about positive development within the Group.
Robin has appointed Dr Tim Le Bas to take on the role with immediate effect. Tim brings a great deal of experience and has been the programme lead for the Cub section for the last couple of years. He started being a leader at 1st Lyndhurst and has been involved in a least 1 international trip. All his children have passed through scouting and 1 is involved as leader in the north of the County.
WhatsApp groups
Off the back of the All Leaders meeting, there was a demand for easier communication between leaders and section volunteers across the District. We now have a WhatsApp community with groups for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Emails were sent out to all section volunteers and GLVs with a link to join each group, if you have not received this then do speak to your GLV or give us a shout and we can add you in.
Hampshire Scouts Growth Hub
You may have seen recently in Hampshire Scouts Update, but the Growth and Development team have pulled together a host of resources to grab and go to help you bring new volunteers and young people into your section.
Plus, you can meet the team, request help with a project and find out about the Growth & Development Fund. You can find the Growth hub on the Hampshire Scouts website.
What’s been happening?
Where do we start? If the summer months saw not so many adventures reach us here at Tails, we’ve been very luck over the past few weeks. So, what did our Scouts of all ages get up to as we rounded off the summer and welcomed autumn?
All Leader meeting minutes
For those who missed our virtual District All Leaders meeting earlier in October, there is a short write up and minutes on our website.
Fundraising success for Stanley’s Own
Amazing news from Stanley’s Own who received a lovely donation from Totton Running Club:
Start learning skills young
Fantastic to see Beavers practicing key skills that Scouts have been practicing for over a century by getting to know patrol tents!
Remember you can stay up to date with what’s going on on our Facebook page (/newforestscouts) or Instagram (@newforestscouts). Plus if you’re a volunteer you can be part of the WhatsApp groups and the Facebook group for members too. Do remember to share your stories with us throughout the month so we can share them directly and keep having great Scouting adventures.
Robin.
Send your news and items for the next edition of Tails at the end of November before the end of the 25th to [email protected].
