HQ Accessibility Information – 4th (Eling Sea Scouts)
At the Scouts we’re open to all and we do all we can to include people in our activities. These guides help give you some information about accessing our headquarters to help you and our leaders make informed decisions and to help improve things for the future.
Getting here
We are located within the Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve, run by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The reserve can be accessed by vehicles from Brunel Road and the headquarters is off of the lower car park. Find directions to the HQ on Google Maps.
Cooks Lane stop used by hourly Salisbury Reds X7 and X7R routes towards Salisbury, Totton and Southampton. Other nearby stops in Calmore and on Salisbury Road to the South are served by the City Red 1 route and Bluestar 12 route regularly from Calmore to Totton and Southampton.
Bus shelter?
No. Benches at stops.
Buses accessible?
Yes. Low floor buses used on route. No specific raised kerb in place – contact bus company for more details.
Private hire?
Accessible to private hire vehicles during opening hours.
Walking and cycling
Footpath access
Footpaths link the HQ to the wider site. There are public footpaths leading from the reserve to surrounding areas but no defined pavements around the vehicle entrance so care should be taken when walking in this area.
Cycle access
Yes, access track is 15mph and local roads are 30mph limits.
HQ pedestrian entrance
Yes from car park.
Parking
Car parking?
Yes. Approximately 6 gravel spaces within the HQ compound and room for around 20 cars in the adjacent reserve tarmac car park.
Accessible spaces?
None specifically designated but all spaces within gravel car park are very close to entrance.

Yes. Level access to front door from gravel car park.

Double doors to access key parts of the site, otherwise not wide doorways.

Yes throughout. Storage, toilets and changing facilities are located on ground floor and is level access throughout. Hall, kitchen, meeting rooms and toilets located on first floor and can be accessed by a lift.

Door into hall from vestibule, yes. Other doors, not necessarily.
Wide corridors?
Corridors are wide enough to turn a wheelchair.
