HQ Accessibility Information - 2nd (Stanley's Own)

At the Scouts we’re open to all and we do all we can to include people in our activities. These guides help give you some information about accessing our headquarters to help you and our leaders make informed decisions and to help improve things for the future.

Getting here

We are located off the A31 Romsey Road in Copythorne between Cadnam and Ower. Find directions to the HQ on Google Maps.

Public transport
Nearest bus stop	Copythorne Crossroads (SE bound) and Copythorne Crossroads (NW bound) – 200m from entrance.
Bus routes	Bluestar T3 route towards Winsor and Totton occasionally on Tuesdays and Thursday daytimes. Bluestar T4 route towards Cadnam and Totton occasionally on Tuesdays and Thursday daytimes.
Bus shelter?	Yes with seat.
Buses accessible?	Yes. Low floor buses used on route. No specific raised kerb in place – contact bus company for more details.
Private hire?	Accessible to private hire vehicles.
Walking and cycling
Footpath access	Yes including public footpaths over fields to nearby roads.
Cycle access	Yes. A number of local roads have 30mph limits and 40mph outside HQ.
HQ pedestrian entrance	Yes.
Parking
Car parking?	Yes. 12-15 spaces on hard gravel.
Accessible spaces?	No. All spaces within easy reach of door. No markings so drivers can leave as much space as they need.

Getting in and moving around

Main entrance
Step free access?	Yes. Permanent wooden ramp to front door.
Automatic doors?	No.
Wide doors?	Front door – No. Left hand door not usually open but volunteers can pin it open if needed for access.
Other entrances/exits
Step free access?	Yes, permanent paved ramp to King hall fire door.
Wide doors?	Fire door – Yes, doors can both be opened easily.
Indoor space
Step free access?	Predominantly. Both halls, toilets and kitchen as well as major storage space is on one level with step free access. There is a meeting room upstairs that is only accessible by stairs.
Wide doors?	No.
Wide corridors?	Corridors are wide enough to turn a wheelchair.

Facilities

Toilets
Toilets	Accessible, female and male toilets are available and clearly signed.
Wheelchair access?	Accessible WC has room for a chair to move around, handles for support.
Alarm?	No.
Hard of hearing
Hearing loop?	No.
Visual fire alarm?	No. It is the responsibility of the leader in charge to check for users when evacuating.
Contents
Flexible layout	Collapsible tables allow for flexibility of layout.
Catering facilities	Fully equipped kitchen including sinks, cookers and kettle all available to hall users.
Environment
Lighting	Artificial lighting in every room in addition to daylight. Curtains on the windows in King hall and exterior shutters on the windows of the Old hall.
Temperature	Radiators exist in the halls. There is no way to cool the HQ.

Fire exits?	The designated secondary exit is a window in a rear room – this is only to be used in the most extreme of emergencies.
