HQ Accessibility Information – 3rd (Ashurst and Colbury)
At the Scouts we’re open to all and we do all we can to include people in our activities. These guides help give you some information about accessing our headquarters to help you and our leaders make informed decisions and to help improve things for the future.
Stop used occasionally by Bluestar 6 route towards Lyndhurst and Lymington. Otherwise, the Bluestar 6 serves other bus stops around 400m away with an hourly service running during the day.
Bus shelter?
No.
Buses accessible?
Yes. Low floor buses used on route. No specific raised kerb in place – contact bus company for more details.
Private hire?
Accessible to private hire vehicles.
Walking and cycling
Footpath access
Yes including along roads to Hounsdown and across the road (via pelican crossing) to area around Foxhills schools.
Cycle access
Yes. Shared used paths and marked cycle routes to Foxhills, Ashurst, Totton and Hounsdown run by the HQ.
HQ pedestrian entrance
Yes.
Parking
Car parking?
Yes. Approximately 50 spaces on tarmac, shared with Colbury Memorial Hall.
Accessible spaces?
Yes. Located near to memorial hall.
Getting in and moving around
Main entrance
Step free access?
Yes. Concrete ramp to front door. There is a small step of a few centimetres to get through the door.
Automatic doors?
No.
Wide doors?
Front door – No. Right hand door not usually open but volunteers can pin it open if needed for access.
Other entrances/exits
Step free access?
Fire doors do not have large steps from them.
Wide doors?
Fire door – Yes, doors can both be opened easily.
Indoor space
Step free access?
Predominantly. Hall, toilets and kitchen, store and side rooms are on one level with step free access. There is a meeting room upstairs that is only accessible by stairs.
Wide doors?
Door into hall from vestibule, yes. Other doors, no.
Wide corridors?
Corridors are wide enough to turn a wheelchair.

Accessible WC has room for a chair to move around, handles for support.

No. It is the responsibility of the leader in charge to check for users when evacuating.

Fully equipped kitchen including sinks, cookers and kettle all available to hall users.

Artificial lighting in every room in addition to daylight. Curtains on the windows in hall.

Heaters exist in the hall to control the temperature of the hall.
