Help us look after our District campsite and get it looking its finest for the summer season!

We do lots to look after our much-used and loved campsite, but what about those jobs that are a little bigger to tackle? Grab your tools and join us to complete the jobs from our list ready for more adventures to come!

Join us for as long as you like, we’ll provide drinks and snacks, but bring a lunch if you’re staying all day. We suggest bringing gardening gloves if you have them, and while we will have tools, feel free to bring your favourites.

Plus, all district groups that send a representative to help (for however long) will be entitled to free use of Harry’s Island facilities!

What jobs are we tackling?

Washrooms – deep clean

  1. Toilets
  2. Extractor fans
  3. Washbasins
  4. Urinals
  5. Showers (and grass traps)
  6. Walls
  7. Ceilings
  8. Floors
  9. Hand driers
  10. Clean off mould around showers
  11. Check for fixtures and fittings – toilet roll holders / sacks in bins / sink plugs & chains / taps secure etc
  12. Oil all hinges & locks.
  13. Door / Windows
  14. Replace toilet rolls / soap dispenser contents / sacks in bins

Kitchen area – deep clean

  1. Walls
  2. Ceilings
  3. Floor
  4. Tables
  5. Sink
  6. Fridge & Freezer – including anti-mould
  7. De-limescale kettles and water urn
  8. Empty toasters
  9. All stainless steel worktops
  10. Clean storage shelves
  11. Top-up soap dispenser contents / paper towel holder / sacks in bin
  12. Door / windows
  13. Oil locks & hinges

Outside

  1. Tidy pioneering pole storage area
  2. Clean bench in “Leaders Observation Area” and paving slabs
  3. Clear ash from cooking bases – take to Out of Bounds area at the left-hand side of the Camp Fire Circle.
  4. Take any wood back to the Wood Pile from cooking bases
  5. Clear ash from Camp Fire Circle – move as above
  6. Clear any debris from Scouts Own area
  7. Tidy Wood Pile – cut hedge back to fence line
  8. Clear brambles / dead wood from area at the top of the hill
  9. Trim hedges behind Camp Fire Circle
  10. Clear leaves from roof of Lean-to
  11. Clear leaves from roof of patio area
  12. Put Weldmesh under paving slabs in patio area to discourage rats
  13. Clean off decking in front of building
  14. Treat new wood on decking
  15. Put anti-slip Weldmesh on decking slope
  16. Creosote fence between the two fields
  17. Treat fence around Camp Fire Circle
  18. Marquee / Patio – sacks in bins / sweep / tidy up.
  19. Fill and put in position Fire bins and buckets.
