By Peter Davy, Squirrels sub-team leader
Squirrels from across the district came together at Copythorne for the New Forest District Sleepover this March. This year the theme was ‘5’, to celebrate 5 years of Squirrels.

After the welcome, the event started with a hike and navigation skills. Following this were a series of activities including cardboard tunnelling, filling time capsule (to be opened in 5 years), hand promises, tomahawks & archery and a hand print tree.

The Squirrels enjoyed The Tiger who came to Tea, while the hall was set up for their tea. They then ventured outside for a camp fire, joining in songs before the evening was finished with a movie in bed.

After colouring and fun with Duplo, the Squirrels departed after breakfast. They had a great time and particularly enjoyed the camp fire. Special thanks to Steven and Emily for hosting that!

Well done to all the volunteers, fantastic Young Leaders, and parents who helped make the event possible and ensured the Squirrels had a great time.

Not every area in the District has a Squirrel Drey yet, often because we are missing the dedicated people to run the exciting programme for 4 and 5 year olds. Interested in making the change? Visit scouts.org.uk/volunteer to get started.
