3rd Ringwood Scout Group had their annual camp at Headlands Adventure Centre between the 13th and 15th of June – and this time they were accompanied by Squirrels, a new section in 3rd Ringwood.

This year, the camp theme was ‘Shipwrecked’ and there were the usual kayaking, archery, arts and crafts and air rifles. The rifle range this year was a pirate ship, it had blue portholes, little targets on top of it, a treasure chest, and palm trees! In arts and crafts, we made a bracelet using black cord and a clip.
In another activity, the Beavers and Cubs made catapults and fired balls of duct tape at cans, while the Scouts built shelters that we slept in the next night. The shelters consisted of a vertical pole with two small ropes at the entrance and a big rope going towards the foot end. Then we put a plastic sheet over the big rope, ropes through it to hold the edges apart and then we’re done! When it came to sleeping in the shelters, I found it quite fun, as it was something new that I hadn’t tried before.
Another activity was where we had to drag pieces of a cannon and some water bottles under a net. When we got there, we had to assemble the cannon, pump up the pressure in the bottle and fire it. We had to try and get it to knock down some cardboard signs which was hard, due to how hard it was to regulate how far it went and aiming it.

There was also an activity where we had to run around the site and find information from the different pictures around the site. By the campfire site, there was an activity where we made our own fires and chopped some wood using an axe, which, eventually, would go on the campfire.
When it came to the camp’s campfire, Paddy and Ziggy (who usually lead the campfire) were unable to do so, so Harry, a Scout, stepped in. Normally, on Saturday evening the Scouts would go on a hike, but this year, it was raining, so nobody wanted to go. Overall, everyone had a great time and are looking forward to next year.
Thank you to all the leaders and helpers who gave their time for this, as this would not have taken place without them.
