The Eling and Testwood Donkey Derby is on Saturday 18th May and both 4th Eling Sea Scouts and 5th Testwood Scouts are on the home stretch in promoting the event.
To get into one of Totton’s biggest family fun days, you need a ticket. You can get yours by buying a programme on the gate for £2 or in advance for only £1.50. Programme sellers will be out in Totton at ASDA and Morrisons on the weekend of the 11th and 12th May so do say hi!

Elm Tree Trophy Camping Competition for Scouts
By Simon Down and Barry Stride
Guide lines and entry form for this year’s Elm Tree Trophy camping competition, taking place 14th to 16th June at Copythorne, have been sent out.
Its a good experience for the Scouts, great practice for Summer Camp, and a way of qualifying for the County Emlyn Trophy – the Hampshire camping competition. As last year, we will be offering a second trophy to encourage any less experienced Patrols to improve. These teams will get help and guidance as and when needed.
Teams do not need to have a Leader to enter, but any help will be welcome. Please contact Simon or Barry if you have not received the email but wish to help or take part.

Commander Bruce Awards
Can you find our next amazing young people worthy of the Commander Bruce awards?
What’s been happening?
We hope our various young people enjoyed a good break over Easter, in the couple of weeks back they certainly started with a bang! Most news started coming in on 23rd April, St. George’s Day. Here’s what 6th Netley Marsh Beavers got up to:
Stanley’s Own Scout and Guide Band were there to chorus in the Summer term:
Sandleheath and Eling Sea Scouts both returned to the waters as the weather allowed it:
And of course more water activities meant adult volunteers who are prepared and qualified to run the sessions. Our thanks go to the leaders who make it all happen:
For a number of groups, they spent the first few weeks of the new term looking ahead to events fast approaching on the Horizon. 4th Eling and 5th Testwood have begun their programme selling for Donkey Derby:
While for others it was District Camp. Here, Sandleheath Sea Scouts test new tents, made possible thanks to help from Fordingbridge Town Council:
Finally, congratulations to Grace, a Cub volunteer with 5th Testwood, who has taken on the London Marathon:
Plus, don’t miss out on this Explorer’s eye perspective of Ferny Fest and Wally Mansbridge from an Explorer Scout at Magellan.
Remember you can stay up to date with what’s going on on our Facebook page (/newforestscouts) or Instagram (@newforestscouts). Plus if you’re a volunteer you can be part of the Facebook group for members too.
Do remember to share your stories with us throughout the month so we can share them directly and keep having great Scouting adventures. Next month we bring much more about exciting events!
Lynn, Robin and Kevin.
