Netley Marsh’s Cubs go silent for St. Matthew’s Church Floor Restoration.

Rufus Cubs at 6th Netley March have played their part and helped their community by raising hundreds of pounds at a 15 minute sponsored silence.

The Church at Netley Marsh, St. Matthews, has played host to the Scouts of all ages at Netley Marsh a number of times as well as being the core of their community. Alas, it has been closed for the past 15 months due to major renovation works in replacing the floor and fitting underfloor heating that is required to preserve the church for many more years to come. Sadly, it has taken longer than first thought and lots more funds are needed to complete the major project.

As part of their Our World Challenge, the Cubs played their part and took on a challenge of doing a 15-minute sponsored silence, asking family members and friends to sponsor each Cub. Every penny pledged went towards the project so this local community asset can be used again soon.

The Leaders had no doubts that the Cubs would complete their challenge, but were absolutely blown away by how much the Cubs raised. After a pep talk by Reverend John Reeve, the Cubs completed their 15 minutes silent challenge with many choosing to use the time reading or completing brain teasing puzzles.

Once all the money had been collected in, Reverend Reeve was invited back and the Cubs proudly presented John with a very large cheque and an amazing amount of £753.87!

John thanked all the Cubs for their efforts, telling them what difference this serious amount of money could make. Contractors are now able to resume work in January 2025, and lay the next part of the floor and start to put the tiles back down again.

All the leaders were so proud of what their Cubs had achieved, and the residents of Netley Marsh doubtless look forward to being able to hold services in the Church again.
