Group Scout Leader, the Lead Volunteer for 4th Eling Sea Scouts

The Group Scout Leader is the lead volunteer for a local Scout group charity. You strategically lead the charity, ensuring the young people get the best possible Scouting programme and that the volunteer leaders are well supported.

This Scout Group charity is a successful Sea Scout group with a modern and well resourced hall at a local nature reserve lake in Totton.

There is support available from other volunteers in the area and many of the responsibilities of the role can be shared within a leadership team or through a role share.

What’s involved?

You’ll ensure that the Scout Group thrives and has the best systems in place to support adult volunteers and develop the Group – including a Group Trustee Board and Section leadership teams. As Group Scout Leader, you’ll provide line management and support to the Leaders in the Scout Group, including setting objectives for their work and holding regular reviews and one-to-one meetings.

Together with the Board of Trustees and a wider leadership team, you’ll ensure that the Scout Group has an adequate team of supported and appropriate adults working effectively together and with others to meet the Scouting needs of the area. Together you’ll be confident that a challenging, exciting and balanced programme is offered to young people in the Scout Group.

How we’ll help you

There is a lot of experience in the district and in the Scouts to help you. You’ll receive training from the Scouts to get you up and running covering all aspects of your role with the aim of building management skills. Plus there is plenty of on-hand experience within the district including buddies with other Group Scout Leaders being possible.
